I love giving gifts during the holiday season. It's a wonderful time to let friends and family know that you're thinking about them with something small and personal. And ideally quick and adorable!
This fun little craft is perfect for adding that special touch to holiday giving. And you know it will be enjoyed year after year as it's hung on the Christmas tree.
Super Secret Santa
This year is my son Austin’s first time being a secret Santa at school! As a new parent of a school-age kid, I am very interested in the way he interacts with his new friends at 4K. During a field trip, my mother-in-law observed that when Austin sat next to a girl in class she scooted away.
Now, I am not sure that he noticed but my heart BROKE to hear this! To our luck, Austin has her name for secret Santa! (Shhh!) Now he has an opportunity to win her over so hopefully they can be friends.
Shopping for a $5.00 give was challenging and fun, but I really wanted to add an extra element. We needed something handmade, personalized, and adorable to make this gift shine.
We came up with this cute, extremely inexpensive elf ornament that we could personalize just for her! Along with the felt, wooden beads, cotton blossoms, and pine cones, we found some pearl stick-on letters at the craft store. They ended up being an easy way to make each place card and ornament unique.

A Place for Everything
For a more sophisticated version of this craft, my mind wandered to entertaining. I found some stunning cotton blossoms at the craft store I knew would work.
Not only does the blossom give the elf a chubby little body or gown, but it also gives the ornament a steady base so it can stand on its own. Add a little piece of paper with a name and you have a rustic holiday place card!
Best of all, the place cards make great favors and can be easily transformed into ornaments they can display on their tree.
Austin and I had so much fun making these quick little ornaments. We will find out Friday if the gift and special ornament bring Christmas cheer!

Quick Elf Place Cards and Ornaments
Equipment
- Hot glue gun
- Sharp scissors
- Wire cutter
Ingredients
- 2/3 in Wooden craft beads
- Fabric marker black
- Felt blue, gray, green
- Cotton blossoms with wire
- Pearl alphabet stickers
- Newsprint
- Decorative pine cones
- wire ornament hangers
Instructions
Place Cards
- With a fabric marker draw a little face on the wooden balls. Tip: In my first elf I did this step last but found out that was a lot of pressure to get the face just right.
- Referring to the photos, cut a 2" x 2 3/4" triangle from felt. Put a line of hot glue along one of the long edges and press lightly to the other long edge, creating a cone. Tip: do half at a time.
- Add wire and shape the hat to what you like! I used an ornament wire hanger. Leave it in when gluing the head on.
- Glue the felt hat to a wooden bead.
- Cut a 3" x 1/4" piece of matching felt for the scarf.
- Trim the wire from the stem of the cotton blossoms. Put a dollop of hot glue on the stem of the cotton blossom and set the head, making sure it sits straight when the blossom is free standing.
- Wrap the scarf around the bottom of the bead and tack in place with hot glue.
- Cut a small flag from newsprint and write a name on it with fabric marker. Tack to the end of a piece of wire with hot glue. Position the other end of the wire in the blossom so it looks like an arm and secure with hot glue.
- Use a piece of left over wire to fluff the felt hat and scarf as desired.
Ornaments
- Repeat Steps 1-4 of Place Cards.
- Place a dollop of glue on the top of the pine cone and set the head, making sure it sits straight when the pine cone is free standing.
- Wrap the scarf around the bottom of the bead and tack in place with hot glue.
- Bend a piece of wire and pierce one end through the tip of the hat as a hanger.
- Use a piece of left over wire to fluff the felt hat and scarf as desired.
